Marc Albrecht: chief conductor from 2011
The unique collaboration between NedPhO|NKO and De Nationale Opera has resulted in the appointment of one chief conductor for both organisations: German conductor Marc Albrecht will fill this position for both companies from the 2011-2012 season onwards.
Marc Albrecht is one of the most talented conductors of the moment; the Dutch newspaper Het Parool rightly spoke of an ideal appointment.
Audiences first realised this when Albrecht conducted Strauss’ Die Frau ohne Schatten for De Nationale Opera with the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra in 2008. The chemistry between conductor, orchestra and cast was so phenomenal that the audience burst into massive applause at the end of each of the three acts. The international music press was full of praise for Albrecht’s spectacular tour de force with the orchestra.
Thanks to his new double position Albrecht can now develop the orchestra’s reputation in a multitude of styles still further from 2011 onwards. Until this time he will give audiences a foretaste of what is to come as guest conductor of various performances for NedPho as well as for DNO.
